Indianapolis creates visions of Midwest warmth and beauty. Many people remember watching the Indianapolis 500 every Memorial Day, even if they wouldn't watch another car race for 365 more days. Others remember Johnny Unitas or Peyton Manning hurling footballs down the field. However, Indianapolis has a lot more to offer than sports.

Central Canal: Internationally, we might think of Venice as the city of canals. In America, many people think of the River Walk in San Antonio. Although those places are interesting, others might be pleasantly surprised to learn that Indianapolis has the Central Canal, also referred to as the Indy Canal Walk. This canal was created in the 1840s, is a three mile loop that allows walkers to visit the Indiana State Museum, the Indianapolis Zoo, and a 250-acre state park and several other sites. You can even rent a Segway for your tour.

Indiana War Memorial Plaza: No one honors America's soldiers, both serving, no longer serving, and fallen quite like the folks of the Midwest, and Indianapolis is no exception. This War Memorial Plaza is comprised of two museums, three parks, and 24 acres. There are statues, sculptures, and fountains, and it is located in downtown Indianapolis. The purpose of this war memorial is to commemorate the valor and sacrifice of the United States Armed Forces, and to honor the state's own soldiers who served and fell in war while protecting our nation.

Children's Museum of Indianapolis: Turn your kids into lifelong museum lovers with a visit to this awesome museum. There is nearly 473,000 square feet of space and 11 different museums, so every child and adult should find something to keep them interested. There are museums examining dinosaurs, Egyptian archeology, China's Terra Cotta Warriors, and much more.

There's a lot more to do in Indianapolis than watch sports; but if that is what brings you to town, then step out and see some of the other great sites and participate in some fun activities. You'll soon come to love this great Midwestern city.
