Augusta is a large community with numerous neighborhoods. Many of them have their own character and beauty. The Central Business District is not just home to commercial properties but also to single-family homes, luxury condos, and numerous multi-family units. August State University and Walton Way is another noted neighborhood. It’s near the college but also is home to historic homes including both Victorian and Colonial style properties. Some newer homes have gone up in this area, too.

The West Side is another fabulous community where many smaller subdivisions and single-family homes are located. It’s a nice area with open parks and walkable streets. Country Club Hills is just two miles to the north of the Downtown area. It’s noted for its college residents and professionals. It’s a beautiful walkable community with a number of boutiques and artisan shops. National Hills is a common location for people who are working military, as it provides easy access to the area’s military base.

Popular Places in Augusta

Augusta is an education city with several colleges in the area including Augusta Technical College, Augusta University, and Paine College. There’s lots to do here, too including visiting the Augusta Museum of History and the Woodrow Wilson Boyhood Home, for those that love history. Perhaps one of the best tourist attractions and areas for good food is along the Riverwalk. It’s a beautiful place to walk along the riverfront with playgrounds and lots of open space.

For those that enjoy golfing, the Forest Hills Golf Club is an important place to visit, though booking a tee time can be challenging during the summer months. The Augusta National Golf Club is one of the most well-known of golf courses because The Masters are played here each year.

The city is also home to numerous parks including the Augusta Common, a green space between Reynolds Street and Broad Street, the Augusta Canal, which is a bike and pedestrian path, and the Phinizy Swamp Nature Park, which are fabulous wetlands that allow visitors to capture animals in their natural habitat.
