The Five Best Flower Shows in the USA

Date: December 5, 2019

Flower enthusiasts and all who appreciate natural beauty should visit a flower show near them. Better yet, anyone who can should get out to these five top flower shows in the USA. Each offers visitors a chance to experience the best in American horticulture, become educated in the gardening profession and spend time walking among pristine gardens.

With so much of the country being consumed by urban sprawl these days it is refreshing that these five flower shows continue the fine tradition of gardening in the 21st century.

1. Philadelphia Flower Show

The City of Brotherly Love opens up its arms to attendees of the annual Philadelphia Flower Show. Each March, over 260,000, people take part in the event, which is the largest indoor show in the world.

Hosted by the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society (PHS), the Philadelphia Flower Show stages juried competitions for serious horticulture and floral arranging aficionados. For everyone else, the show has a host of seminars and presentations. And, yes, there is a beer garden, for those so inclined.

This show is most known for its black-tie preview party that brings out attendees in their best dress. While in town, be sure to purchase some gifts at a local Philadelphia flower shop to help out the community.

2. Chicago Flower Show

In 1847, the Chicago Horticultural Society (CHS) founded the Chicago Flower Show. Today, more than 40,000, head to Festival Halls in Navy Pier to enjoy over a week (March 18-26, 2017) of inspiring and educating gardening events. The cooking presentations are some of the most popular gatherings. Food grown in local gardens gets prepared before live audiences.

3. San Francisco Flower Show

Nature lovers on the West Coast can enjoy five days (April 5-9, 2017) of seminars and presentations at the San Francisco Flower and Garden Show in the Bay Area of California. The festivities take place at the San Mateo Event Center.

Nursery owners stand ready at the San Francisco Flower Show to answer any questions posed by guests. The objective is to teach attendees how to go out and create their own professional-looking gardens.

4. Indianapolis Flower and Patio Show

Since 1958, the Indianapolis Flower and Patio Show has provided Midwesterners with an opportunity to witness the fine arts of gardening and patio building. From March 11 to 19, 2017, visitors can again learn how to make the most of their back yards.

Hosts emphasize that the Indianapolis Flower and Patio Show is about more than just flowers. The displays include pools, outdoor kitchens and yard art.

5. Epcot Flower Show

The longest running gardening event each year is theEpcot Flower Show in Orlando, Florida. From March 1 to 29, Epcot Center highlights its garden displays and provides discounts to park visitors. Most of the gardens include landscapes carved in the image of Disney characters. Kids have a play area just for them. Best of all, the whole family can come out for the weekend concerts.
